The Journey To Myself
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I started my yoga journey in 2007 while teaching elementary Special Education for LAUSD. At the same time, our Occupational Therapist, Kim Pulley would bring yoga cards as an activity for the class. I would use these in the classroom as a sensory and movement break. I saw how students with high-functioning autism responded to this intervention and therapy. I completed my first Kids' Yoga training in 2012 with Jocelyn Kay Levy of YogaWorks El Segundo. In 2013, I completed my Master's research project on the effects of yoga on students with learning disabilities. It was after two additional Kids' Yoga trainings that I finally decided to enroll in a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with YogaWorks El Segundo in 2016. In addition to alignment-based Vinyasa yoga, I also received training in Yin Yoga with Melissa Christensen of Spectra Yoga.
I left public school teaching in 2017 to teach yoga full-time. I was fortunate enough to teach for Yoga on the Beach in Huntington Beach and started a Kids' Yoga program at the local community center in Huntington Beach. I love teaching Kids' Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Vinyasa based practices. My husband and I, along with our little dog, Bettie, drove across country from California to New Hampshire in July 2018 to be closer to my husband's family.
I currently teach at Hogan Sports Center at Colby-Saywer College in New London and the New London Recreation Center teaching Kids' Yoga. In addition, I also started a Kids' yoga program at Bradford Elementary and Simonds School. When time allows, I teach school teachers from KRSD at Sutton Central School and Bradford Elementary, which are open to the community. I teach private classes for events and specific groups, like Bachelorette Parties and Kids' birthdays. I also offer private Reiki Healing Energy sessions. These services can also be provided privately online via Zoom.
Most recently in the Fall of 2019, I became certified in teaching Trauma Sensitive/Informed Yoga with Holle Black from The Center for Integrative Yoga Studies and Centering Youth. My goal is to work with young girls and women who are sexual abuse survivors. Teaching them through yoga how to take back their power and control over their bodies.
My hope is to share my love of yoga and how it has changed my life. I dream of a day when everyone practices yoga and the future generation of kids will be filled with loving-kindness and compassion.
Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.
